BAND NAME ORIGIN
Ali was asked to record session vocals,
around the year 2000, for a
selection of Paul and Mack’s songs
who had teamed up with their music
journeying as ‘DREAMSQUAD’.
Other vocalists and musicians
worked with Paul recording these
songs also; Alison being involved
with those ventures as well.
HOW WHO MET WHO WHEN
Paul knew Mack in Hobart, Tasmania
since the mid seventies and they
started co-writing when Mack moved
to Sydney, Paul having moved to
Canberra at the time (approx 1981),
so he’d pack the portastudio and the
Yamaha DX7 in the car and drive up
there some weekends.
When Paul asked Ali to record
some of his songs under
DREAMSQUAD, he arranged
for her to meet Mack.
They all had a meal together
at the Keg on 27th September
in the year 2000.
…A note from Ali…
I enjoyed this night very much and
recording Mack and Paul’s music.
Paul can’t recall how him and Mack
thought of the name ‘DreamSquad’,
but the lead song ‘We Are Machine’,
apparently, was an original by Mack
in a band he had in Tasmania called
‘The Barbs’, maybe 1980’ish
In 2002 January 8th Saturday at 8pm
Paul and Ali hosted an ‘Originals Nite’
at Ali’s residence with several friends,
people who had recorded with
DreamSquad, some writers/artists
of other material, songs which were
represented on a CD originals’
compilation Paul had organized,
engineered and produced.
We had a great night.
Thanks Paul and all who attended.
Ali met Paul through Glenn,
who she was writing songs with
in an originals line up called DEEP.
Glenn knew Paul’s cousin Wazza and
we, DEEP (Al, Glenn, Pete & Nick),
recorded at Paul’s studio,
Clearcut Productions, in 1998;
our debut album ‘Love or Fear’.
That’s how Ali met Paul.
They then continued to record
together etc after that year.
When Ali met Paul whilst recording
with D E E P at his Clearcut Studio,
little did she know the magnitude of
that introduction; a lifelong friendship
coupled with musical inspiration
and desire to grasp technical abilities.
In 2001 Paul gave Ali her very first
computer thus enabling the future
of the Musical Rise website
and all that entailed and required.
…A note from Ali…
Paul’s patience, reassurance and abilities
guided me towards bravery and quality,
coupled with the ‘for fun’ element.
It has been a privilege and much fun
working with Paul over the years.
He is a major inspiration and very
encouraging, working his creativity
to the max and sharing it with others.
He has also been a great friend.
Thank you Paul.
Ali was born in Smithton Tasmania
in 1968; so she was still in Tasie until
she was 6 years old, 1974, which was
around the time Paul and Mack met;
then her family moved to Melbourne.
EXTRA THANKS
Around the time that Alison wrote
the song “Thank You Your Majesty”
she had the privilege of working alongside
inspirational, humble, talented musicians,
vocalists and instructors in Renat & Hila Yusupov,
& Attilla Sautov (Mueller Chamber Orchestra) ..
all friends from Uzbekistan whom Alison met
& performed with whilst in Queensland, Australia.
Thank you to all involved in making
this song’s creation possible.
Thank you to Alison’s inspiring,
encouraging music teachers throughout the years
who offered her many musical opportunities,
including Max Cooke and Darryl Coote at
Melbourne University Conservatorium
during Alison’s Bachelor of Music Ed degree,
Patricia Venn, Music Director, at
Kilvington Baptist Girls’ Grammar School,
Nehama Patkin adjudication at a school event
and scout for Alison’s appearance on
Young Talent Time 1983, Mrs Hoenig
at Sandringham East Primary School,
Jennifer McKenzie Piano at Kilvington,
Gwen Quirk (Kilvington Music Teacher),
Sir George Logie-Smith, Jan Jackson
and Shirley Radford – Organ,
Instructors including Vera Miles at Beaumaris
Championship Grade Calisthenics,
people at and from multiple Churches & affiliates,
a big thank you to Alison’s many students
and friends/colleagues who shared and enjoyed
music making with her,
to super stars who have sparked Alison’s
possibilities imagination
and to her family for their love,
support including prayers ..
AND to God.
